Urban Photo Fest is an international photographic festival focusing on urban photography and associated visual research. This international event draws on a wide range of approaches to image-making within contemporary and historical city-based photography and lens-media arts.
The primary aim of UPF is to provide critical engagement within and between the fields of visual urbanism, lens-based art practices, photojournalism, filmmaking, urban sociology, cultural geography, anthropology and art history; in order to encourage dialogue between the visual and theoretical realms.
Urban Photo Fest is supported by a number of internationally established photographic artists and institutions and will build upon the on-going annual Urban Encounters conference hosted at Tate Britain in collaboration with iAVU (International Association of Visual Urbanists) and Goldsmiths, University of London in conjuncion with an exhibition of photographs at Foto8 Gallery by a collective of students from Goldsmith's MA Photography entitled f-twenty two.
Urban Photo Fest will host conferences, exhibitions, symposia, seminars and practice workshops; and will facilitate meaningful conversations that will develop the field of visual urbanism in close cooperation with key urban theorists and visual practitioners whose work investigates the nature of city life, past and present.
